Annabel McMahon

Designer, social entrepreneur, specialist in design for healthcare and disability.

Annabel trained as a Textile Designer and spent the first 24 years of her career working with a large plc and smaller private ltd companies designing fabric and garments to supply the UK high street multiple stores.
Finding the competitive environment of high street business no longer a rewarding challenge she noticed a gap in the market for modern high quality garments for children with disabilities. In 2004 Annabel set up Rackety’s, a vibrant on-line brand to cater for the much neglected market sector. Taking high street standards of design and quality and creating helpful, life changing clothing for adults and children with disabilities.
Annabel is passionate about the social impact of helping families who live with disability, particularly in the way disabled children and adults are presented visually to society. Through her relationship with her customers around the globe, she has a unique understanding of the requirements and often taboo problems experienced by her customers.
Writing and speaking about design challenges faced by the healthcare and textile industries is her next step in raising awareness of the needs and aspirations of the disabled community. Annabel is working with the MOD on rehabilitation garments and the exciting developments in wearable technology, e-textiles, and integrated clothing systems.
