Barbara Jackson

Humanitarian Director, CARE International

Ms. Jackson is a seasoned humanitarian professional with over 20 years of experience. She is currently the Humanitarian Director for CARE International based in Geneva, Switzerland and is responsible for coordinating and overseeing CARE’s global response to humanitarian crises and emergencies. Ms. Jackson’s role requires extensive collaboration and coordination with the CARE International membership, NGOs, constituencies, and stakeholders to support our humanitarian mandate of meeting the needs of affected populations in the poorest communities of the world while demonstrating the highest standards of accountability, effectiveness and quality.

Ms. Jackson’s previous positions including serving as CARE Country Director in Honduras, Bolivia and Mozambique and a range of assignments and positions in Ethiopia, Uganda, Bangladesh and Guatemala. Within those assignments, she has been responsible for managing a range of emergency response efforts from large scale rapid on-set situations, chronically aggravated slow on-set as well as politically complex emergencies.

Ms. Jackson brings to the position of Humanitarian Director the conviction that emergency response, mitigation and recovery must be integral to overall development programming. CARE International’s humanitarian focus is aligned with the overall program focus of ensuring women and girls are at the center of our work to achieve greater equality and ability to overcome poverty. Ms. Jackson is an anthropologist by professional training.
