Carne Ross is a former British diplomat who resigned after giving then-secret evidence to the Butler Inquiry about his work on Iraq’s disarmament and weapons inspections. The subsequent publication of his testimony fuelled calls for a full public inquiry, to which he also later testified: the Chilcot Inquiry. Carne is the subject of the forthcoming documentary film, Accidental Anarchist, which is about his life and ideas. Carne’s political philosophy has transformed from a belief in top-down government to the conviction that anarchism offers a practical and sustainable solution to the current democratic malaise. He is the author of two books, most recently The Leaderless Revolution: how ordinary people will take power and change politics in the 21 century (Simon & Schuster). He regularly comments on international affairs on the BBC, Al Jazeera, and CNN and in publications including the New York Times, Guardian, Financial Times, The Nation and the Huffington Post. After his resignation, Carne founded and now runs Independent Diplomat, a non-profit diplomatic advisory group.
