Born and raised on a beef farm in Staffordshire, Darren Henaghan is rooted in the world of food production. He has worked as a trustee of Waste Watch, an environmental charity, and held a series of government advisory roles, covering food safety and other regulatory matters.
Darren joined
Borough Market as Managing Director in 2016 and he has had quite a first year. From 55,000 people in 2 hours descending on a nice little community event just before Christmas called the ‘evening of cheese’,to leading the market through the huge impact felt from the terrorist atrocities in June, alongside Borough Market Chair of Trustees, Donald Hyslop. And of course doing the day job which is to figure out how to take Borough Market to the next stage in its evolution.
Darren has a wealth of leadership experience. After training as a civil engineer and environmental health officer, he made his name in local government, first with Barking and Dagenham, then Thurrock, and latterly in Ealing. Over the past 18 years, he has built a reputation as a specialist in place-based development programmes, including the delivery of environmental services and affordable housing.
