Dhiraj Murthy is a Reader in the Department of Sociology at Goldsmiths, University of London. His research primarily explores social media. Dhiraj also has a book on Twitter, the first scholarly book on the subject, which is published by Polity Press. He has studied the role of social media in disasters, health, activism, and organizations. Dhiraj co-directs The Centre for Creative & Social Technologies, an interdisciplinary research group investigating social technologies.
