Chief Executive, Sightsavers
Dr Caroline Harper OBE, Chief Executive, Sightsavers. Dr Harper joined Sightsavers in 2005 as chief executive, having made the decision to move from the corporate world into the not-for-profit sector, inspired by her travels in developing countries. She also had a number of blind family members so Sightsavers mission has personal resonance for her. Sightsavers is dedicated to making eye care accessible to even the most marginalised and vulnerable of communities, by strengthening the local health systems. The organisation also works with disabled people's organisations to fight for the rights of disabled (including blind) people. Ms Harper has a PhD in energy studies from the University of Cambridge and was awarded an OBE for services to the gas industry in 2000. Prior to joining Sightsavers, she ran her own interim management business and worked as a non-executive director for a housing association in west London.
