John Cosgrove

Warwickshire GP and RCGP Council member

John is a GP in Atherstone, Warwickshire. His passion is to do the best for all his patients. Central to this is a determination to avoid unnecessary treatments, tests and interventions for those that do consult their GPs, so that time and other resources can be focussed on those patients able to benefit from medical treatment. In the political drive to improve access (largely for the normally well), general practice is becoming overwhelmed. This, ironically, at a time when medical science has advanced to the point where GPs could treat their patients more effectively than ever, if only they had adequate resources and the freedom to target them. Recognising that one GP in isolation cannot effect such change, John has joined RCGP Council in order to influence policy. He was a founding partner of Resilient GP® until March 2015. John grew up in Bath. He trained at Guy's and St Thomas' Medical School, completed his GP training in Cirencester and then worked for many years in Oxfordshire. Any opinions he expresses here are his own and not necessarily representative of any organisation he is a member of.
