Fran Scott

Science Presenter, Producer and Queen of Science Demonstrations

Fran Scott is the only female Science presenter on Children's BBC. Inspired by the lack of female scientist role models on children's television, 12 years ago Fran set about to change that and after working on 22 science series, 12 science books and gaining four BAFTA nominations she's certainly getting there. Everything Fran does is to open up science and engineering to those who can't (yet) see its draw. A neuroscientist and pyrotechnician by training (but an Engineer at heart), Fran draws on her knowledge to write narratives and build demonstrations to increase viewers' knowledge fiery-step-by-fiery-step. Although just as happy behind the camera, Fran is best known for her presenting work. Since 2012 she has become the go-to female face of science on CBBC, showing that women on children's science programmes can be the expert not just the assistant. She co-presents the popular Absolute Genius series with Dick and Dom and is a regular presenter on Newsround, How to Be Epic at Everything, BBC Live Lessons and Bitesize Revision Guides. Keen to keep a finger in the Producer pie, Fran also runs her own event production company, producing high-octane science show for well-known brands. She is also the Science Content Producer for the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures.
