GlaxoSmithKline’s Chief Medical Officer
James Shannon is GlaxoSmithKline’s Chief Medical Officer and has more than 20 years’ experience at senior levels of the pharmaceutical industry.
With a background in medicine and cardiology, James holds primary responsibility for matters of patient safety, general medical governance, medical ethics and integrity, medical information and investigations involving human subjects relating to any GSK product in development and on the market.
He is chairman of the Global Safety Board and the Medical Governance Executive Team and a member of the R&D Lead Team (RDLT), the R&D Scientific Review Board, the Pipeline Investment Board, and the Commercial Accountability Board.
James received his undergraduate and post graduate degrees at Queen’s University of Belfast and is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK).
