Karmenu Vella

Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, European Commission

Karmenu Vella was elected to parliament in 1976. In 1981, he was appointed as minister for public works, and in 1984 he was appointed as minister for industry. He served as minister for tourism in 1996–98, and was again appointed as minister for tourism in March 2013. He was appointed European Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries in 2014.

Karemenu Vella graduated with a degree in architecture and civil engineering from the University of Malta and later obtained his master of science in tourism management from Sheffield Hallam University.
