Grammy Award winner, solo artist, X Factor judge
As Kelly fever sweeps the nation on the back of her prime time Saturday night TV slot on the
X Factor judging panel, the Grammy Award-winning member of one of the most successful groups of all time gears up to release her third solo studio album
Here I Am on 27 November through Island Records.
Kelly gets straight down to business on her hotly anticipated new album, reminding the world how distinctive and fearlessly powerful those vocals really are.
Here I Am is a brilliantly assertive, widescreen 21st Century R&B club record, packed with jump-up-and-dance smashes like
Down For Whatever and
Commander sitting comfortably alongside songs like
All Of The Night which bring down the lights and the tempo to slow jam speed.
With brand new management, a new record label and a worldwide hit,
When Love Takes Over (with acclaimed French dance producer David Guetta) under her belt – not to mention a spot on primetime TV until the end of the year - the UK is definitely Kelly’s for the taking.
The album’s declarative first track,
I’m Dat Chick (Tricky Stewart) is everything the opening song on an LP of this magnitude should be: assertive, confident, and laced with swagger. Kelly released the hit lead single
Motivation featuring Lil Wayne on guest vocals in the US in April, a fitting reintroduction to Rowland - the solo star. The song went down a storm - peaking at number one on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and staying there for seven weeks in a row - also reaching number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Rowland's highest performing single as a solo artist and first US Top 20 hit as lead singer to date.
Here I Am also sees former Destiny’s Child star Kelly working with an all-star cast of songwriters and producers including Darkchild (Aaliyah, Destiny’s Child, The Black Eyed Peas, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson), Tricky Stewart (Beyonce, Rihanna), Rico Love (Usher, Nelly, Beyonce, Chris Brown), RedOne (Lady Gaga) and guest stars Lil Wayne and Big Sean.
Here I Am is the long-awaited follow-up to Kelly’s two successful solo albums - 2002’s RIAA Gold-certified
Simply Deep, which reached number 12 on the Billboard chart, and 2007’s
Ms. Kelly which went on to sell 1.2 million copies worldwide.
