Melissa Leach is Director of the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) based at the University of Sussex. She founded and directed the ESRC STEPS Centre from 2006 – 2014 and is co-Chair of the Science Committee of Future Earth. A social anthropologist and geographer, her research in Africa and beyond has addressed a variety of environmental, agricultural, health and technology issues, often integrating gender and feminist political ecology perspectives. Recent books include Dynamic Sustainabilities: Technology, Environment, Social Justice (2010); Green Grabbing: A New Appropriation of Nature (2013); The Politics of Green Transformations (2015), and Gender Equality and Sustainable Development (2015).
