Agricultural masters student
Mercy Nqandeka was born in Elliotdale (Xhorha), Eastern Cape South Africa. She studied a BSc degree in Crop and soil science, a BSc Honours in soil science supervised by Prof Isaiah Wakindiki and master’s in soil Science (thesis in correction) supervised by Dr Johan van Tol at the University of Fort Hare, South Africa. In 2016 through F’SAGRI university of Fort Hare she received a bursary from Campus France. The scholarship gave her an opportunity to study master’s in Agriculture Climate Change Transitions (ACT) in two different European universities. The first year was at the National University of Ireland, Galway in the Climate Change and Food Security (CCAFS) programme. Her second year is at SupAgro, Montpellier, France in the Ressources, systèmes Agricoles, développment (RESAD) programme. She is currently working on her master’s thesis at Makerere University, Uganda supervised by Didier Pillot, Prof Paul Kibwika and Dr Emma Naluyima. Her thesis focuses on assessing smallholder farmers techniques and how they can reduce unemployment in Uganda.
