Mpho Buntse

Social Entrepreneur and Youth Activist

Mpho Buntse is a Civic Leader, LGBTI Activist, Creative Entrepreneur and Scholar. He holds a BA in Journalism, BA Honours in Communication Theory and currently undertaking a Master’s degree [MPhil] in Fundamental Communication. Mpho is a goal driven individual with knowledge of Media Law/Ethics, Social/Digital Media and Strategic Communications, Public Relations, Publicity and Copywriting. His experience spans across working as a reporter for the UJ Observer, The New Age Newspaper and Africa News Network 7, and he has worked as the Communications Officer for the Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards. He is a regular contributor at the Mail and Guardian ‘Thought Leader’ and receives regular invites as a social commentator for numerous television and radio shows. Over the years Mpho has served amongst others as an SRC member responsible for Sport, Arts and Culture and Social  Welfare Office in the past, through these offices, he has been given a number of responsibilities including serving at the UJ Student Parliament, Student Services Council, Student Advisory Council and further sat on a number of committees, including numerous Academic Exclusion Appeals, Student Judiciary and has been invited to partake in peer reviews including that of Campus Health and Institutional Office for HIV and AIDS. As an aspiring diplomat, Mpho represented SA at international platforms including the International Lesbian and Gay Association in Greece, where he was honoured with the key to the city for contribution to advocating for gay rights and he is also a fellow of the Youth Diplomats Forum through a visit to Croatia, Zagreb. He recently represented SA at the Breaking Down Borders Africa Youth Summit, Mpho is a graduate of the Triangle Project/Victory Institute LGBTI leadership training.
