Paul Murphy

I am a writer on Spain and all things literary and published my first book in June 2014, As I Walked Out Through Spain in Search of Laurie Lee. It is a creative non-fiction biography of the English writer, Laurie Lee. The book retraces his journey across a Spain in 1935 on the edge of civil war that was the subject of his classic book As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning.

My book takes a fresh look at Lee, examines the life changing impact that Spain had on his life and compares Spain then and now, at a time when it is facing its biggest crisis since the civil war.

The publication of the book was timed to coincide with the Laurie Lee Centenary Year in 2014.

The book was started as part of my MA Professional Writing at Falmouth University and I was awarded a distinction for my work on it.

I have received plaudits for the early drafts of the book from established writers and editors.
