Rokia Traoré

Award-winning Malian singer-songwriter and UNHCR supporter

Rokia Traoré is one of the most inventive female singer and songwriters in Africa today. She has performed all over the world from the UK’s prestigious Barbican, to a run of summer festivals, including Glastonbury, WOMAD and Roskilde. She has also collaborated with Damon Albarn, Paul McCartney and John Paul Jones through the Africa Express. Rokia began a new role with UNHCR when she supported World Refugee Day travelling to Burkina Faso to visit the Malian refugees in the camp of Goudobou. By mixing her vast creative skills with these powerful stories of the refugees in Mali she hopes to further spotlight a very forgotten and ongoing crisis in West Africa.
