Scott Watkin BEM

Scott champions better eye care for people with learning disabilities and autism, and is dedicated to providing a voice for the learning disability community.

Scott is the Eye Care and Vision Development Officer for SeeAbility – a charity which provides support and champions better eye care for people with learning disabilities and autism, many of whom have sight loss. Scott has a learning disability and is dedicated to providing a voice for the learning disability community. In the 2018 New Year Honours, Scott was awarded the BEM (British Empire Medal) in recognition of his work. He was also winner of the Making a Difference award at the National Learning Disabilities Awards 2017. Scott has previously worked with the Department of Health as Co-national Director for Learning Disabilities and is currently Co Chair of the Transforming Care Assurance Board. He represents organisations and professionals on the representative body for Learning Disability England. Scott is also a visiting Lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire where he works with their student learning disability nurses. SeeAbility encourages people with disabilities to challenge what they expect from life, from themselves and from wider society.
