Sumir Karayi Founder, CEO, 1E
Sumir Karayi founded 1E in 1997 with the goal to drive down the cost of IT for organizations of all sizes by identifying and eliminating IT waste. Sumir pioneered PC power management and established a market-leading role for his company. He has driven 1E innovations to achieve $2.3bn in IT efficiency savings for its customers, $1.3bn of which come from energy efficiencies alone, cutting CO2 emissions by 11.5 million tons.
Under Sumir’s leadership, 1E has become a successful global organization which has seen considerable acclaim in the industry. It ranks in the Sunday Times International Track 100 league table of top private companies and has been heralded as one of the top 20 companies for CIOs to watch by CIO magazine. Similarly, its innovations receive frequent plaudits – in 2013 NightWatchman Enterprise won Energy Efficiency Solution of the year at the Green IT awards and was a finalist in the UK IT Industry Awards for Technology Excellence in the Infrastructure Innovation of the Year category. In 2012 it was awarded Green IT Company at the Green IT awards and in 2010, 1E was a Best UK IT Vendor finalist at the Computing/ British Computer Society awards and received the Greenbang best IT Technology award for NightWatchman Enterprise.
1E remains privately held and is headquartered in London and New York and with 24 million licenses deployed across more than 1,600 organizations in 42 countries worldwide.
Sumir is a founder member of the Alliance to Save Energy and supporter of the Climate Savers Computing Initiative and 1E in turn is an active, contributing member of the Green Grid as well as a member of the Green IT Council Advisory Board. Sumir is a passionate believer in philanthropy and charitable giving. He supports many initiatives including the British Association of Adoption and Fostering (BAAF), the Manav Mandir Ashram Orphanage and the Innocent World Charitable Society in India.
Sumir gained a BEng in Electronic Engineering and MSc in IT from Warwick University.
