Dr Suriyah Bi currently teaches at SOAS University of London and is the founder and CEO of the Equality Act Review which she founded in 2018. She was born and raised in inner-city Birmingham and is of Kashmiri heritage. Having studied at a state school and from a working class background, she went on to study for her BA at Magdalen College Oxford during which she received a scholarship to study at Stanford University. She then completed her MA at SOAS University of London, and her PhD at University College London. The final year of her PhD was completed at Yale’s Department of Anthropology. After experiencing discrimination in employment herself, she is committed to creating a more equal and fair society for all. As an academic she conducts research and publishes on equality, social mobility, migration studies, gender studies, and religious and ethnic minorities. She tweets @DrSuriyah
