Hungarian State Secretary for Foreign Affairs
Zsolt Nemeth has been Hungarian State Secretary for Foreign Affairs since 2010. He was one of the small group of Hungarian politicians who, together with Prime Minister Victor Orban, founded the Fidesz party in Hungary in the late 1980s, which was instrumental in bringing the communist occupation of Hungary to an end. He has been a Member of Parliament since 1990 . He served as a Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe between 1994-1998. He was the Political State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between 1998-2002. From 2002, he served as the deputy leader of the Hungarian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. From 2002 to 2006, he was the deputy-leader of the FIDESZ parliamentary group and the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Parliament. During the 2006-2010 term he was the Chairman of the Committee of Foreign Affairs and Hungarians Abroad. He has been the leader of the Foreign Affairs Cabinet of the party since 2002, and the Vice Chairman of the Political Commission of the Council of Europe since 2005.
