Younger pageant queens, be ready to fight for the crown. A 54-year-old English grandmother is vying to take the top spot as she gears up for her first ever beauty pageant.
Amanda Booth, of Wiltshire, England, decided to compete in the Ms. Galaxy UK pageant after her son tragically died in a car accident in 2008.
It was after the loss that she realized she wanted to change her life.
"Life's too short. I want to do something for myself," Booth told SWNS.
The grandmother-of-five decided to apply for the pageant and was surprised when she was accepted. The Ms. Galaxy UK contest is open to unmarried women who are over age 30. At 54, Booth is the oldest contestant, a spokesperson for Galaxy Pageants UK confirmed. There are four contestants who are over 50.
"I want to prove my self-worth," Booth said. "I'm excited about the whole concept and I'll have the confidence hopefully to get up there and strut my stuff!"
"We absolutely love that age is no boundary for these women who want to compete in our pageant," Holly Pirrie, director of Galaxy Pageants UK, told The Huffington Post. "Amanda is definitely inspiring women from across the UK, and around the world, [by taking] herself out of her comfort zone and facing a new challenge, whilst pursuing a dream that she has had for many years."
Judging by the bikini pics, we don't think she has anything to worry about.
Looking good, Glam-ma!
