Viewers of new ITV drama A Confession have bemoaned the showā€™s ā€œshakyā€ camera work.

Many claimed they struggled to watch the first episode of the real-life crime series on Monday night due to its stylised look.

The show ā€“ which tells the story of how Detective Superintendent Steve Fulcher deliberately breached police protocols to catch the killer of Swindon residents Sian Oā€™Callaghan and Becky Godden back in 2011 ā€“ featured some unusual camera work, often zooming in and out and looking shaky.

On Twitter, many people complained that it was too distracting...

Have been really looking forward to watching #AConfession but having just watched 5mins of it have had to turn it over. Please can we just have NORMAL sodding camera work!!! Let the actors keep us interested in the shot!!!! NOT STUPID CAMERA SHAKES. Very disappointed. pic.twitter.com/b3HVlCUmI0

"How shall we shoot this scene?"

"I know how about another quick camera zoom"

"Yes that's what we need" #AConfession pic.twitter.com/l1Wl2rphjI

Good christ. I'm on the verge of motion sickness. Bloody calm it on the zooms. #AConfession

Gave up on #AConfession after 5 mins. Appalling camera work. Thought that shaky fad had fucked off for good. Such a shame considering the great cast and written by Jeff Pope. What a waste.

So #AConfession looks great but the 'NYPD Blue' zoomy camera stuff is getting on my nerves already.

Bloody hell. Really looking forward to this but think I'll have to switch it off, getting the jitters with this handheld camera work!#AConfession

This camera work is making me feel sick. Stop zooming in! #AConfession

However, the showā€™s unique appearance was defended by some, who claimed to not know what people were complaining about...

#AConfession why do people not just focus on the story , great drama and acting. I thought the camera work and production was excellent. @itv donā€™t do many good dramas but at last theyā€™ve done one that will fill Monday nights for 6 weeks.

Fantastic cast. Story so far told with sensitivity. Think the complaints about camera work are completely unfair. Well done ITV.

These stories need to be told so we as the public can help more during these investigations. #aconfession

Honestly everyone moaning about the bloody camera, you canā€™t even notice it once youā€™re into it. Brilliant cast for this. So much more terrifying at the fact it was on our doorstep, I mean, Iā€™ve been to sujuā€™s, my friend even thinks we were followed by him, scary #AConfession

The first episode focussed on the disappearance of Sian Oā€™Callaghan, who went missing after a night out.

Those unfamiliar with the real story are yet to discover how her disappearance ties in with that of Becky Gooden, whose mother is played by Imelda Staunton in the series.

Explaining where the drama ends up, the actress previously told HuffPost UK: ā€œItā€™s quite an interesting story in that itā€™s not just about justice and this heartbreaking, traumatic thing, but about what happened to this police officer and how this mother, my character, wanted to help him because she believed he did the right thing,ā€

A Confession continues on Monday at 9pm on ITV.
