Adele has shared a special tribute to her record-breaking album 21, in honour of its 10th anniversary.
The chart-topping singer released her second album – named after the age she was during its production – in January 2011, featuring huge hits Rolling In The Deep and Someone Like You.
It went on to become a game changer for Adele’s career, earning her seven Grammys, as well as two Brit Awards and an impressive five Guinness World Record titles, including becoming the first album in UK chart history to sell three million copies in a year.
Posting on Instagram for the first time since October, Adele wrote: “Well I never! Happy 10 years old friend!
“It’s crazy how little I remember of what it was like and how I felt a decade ago. But Thank You from the bottom of my heart for letting us into your lives and letting me be a soundtrack to some of it.”
Adele has not released new music since her third album 25, which debuted in November 2015.
She has confirmed that she’s been working on new material for some time, but while many thought that her Saturday Night Live guest hosting stint last year would precede a surprise album release, this ultimately proved to not be the case.
“My album is not finished and I’m also too scared to do both [hosting and performing live on SNL],” Adele said in her opening monologues.
“I would rather just put on some wigs… have a glass of wine or six and just see what happens.”
Rumours began swirling recently about a potential February release date, with Adele’s close friend Alan Carr revealing earlier this month that he’d already heard some of her new music.
He said: “I’ve actually heard some tracks on it. Oh my god, it’s so amazing. So amazing… I said to her, I said, ‘That voice is like an old friend.’
“Because there are some people in the charts who sound a bit like Adele and you think, ‘Oh they sound like Adele’ and then when you hear Adele’s voice again you go, ’Oh no, there’s only one. There’s only one Adele.”
