Adele Roberts had I’m A Celebrity viewers and campmates alike scratching their heads when she revealed she’d taken a picture of Jane McDonald into the jungle as her luxury item – but now her girlfriend has revealed the reasons behind her unusual decision.
The Radio 1 DJ’s partner, Kate Holderness, has cleared up the confusion surrounding Adele’s framed Jane photo, after it became a hot topic in camp and on social media.
Kate revealed Adele had originally planned to take in a different item but was not allowed due to show rules, so decided to take in something to cheer herself up with.
And being a big fan of our Jane, there was only one obvious choice.
Writing on Twitter, Kate explained: “I can clear this up. All the campmates have to have different luxury items, they’re not allowed to double up on anything.
“So Adele’s first choice of a family photo was already taken, which she didn’t mind because she knew there’d be campmates who’d love a pic of their children in there with them.
“Second choice, a pillow, was another goner as it’s usually the most requested item. Pretty much everything she wanted after that was already taken too.
“The brief was ‘something to make you happy’ so she chose something that never fails to cheer her up and something that reminds her of early morning Radio 1 listeners – it’s a bit of a long running feature on Adele’s show, when they’re having a bit of a slump and feeling down a listener will request ‘a bit of Jane’ to get them through the day.”
She added: “I do have to say that most of her decisions are made at 2am when she gets up for her show, most things make perfect sense as that time.”
I’m A Celebrity viewers saw Adele butt heads with Roman Kemp on Tuesday night’s show over her picture of Jane.
In a somewhat unlikely clash, he branded Adele’s luxury item “random” with her then accusing him of “prejudice”.
Former contestant John Barrowman has since accused Adele of trying to “get a vote from a certain community” over her decision to take the item in to the jungle.
However, Jane herself said she was “thrilled”, tweeting: “Absolutely thrilled to see my picture in the jungle. @AdeleRoberts I flipping love you. Best of luck.”
