Adults Need To Be More Childish

Adulthood is a strange thing, being only at the beginning of it I may not know everything, but what I do know is that the majority of adults are unhappy, stressed out and depressed. Something I've been thinking about recently, is whether adults should take a few notes from children. I see children running around, screaming and laughing and I'm taken back to being young, to being carefree, happy and so beautifully unaware of the troubles in this world.

My theory, at least for now is that we should all try acting like children and see how it works for us. The good thing about acting like children whilst being adults is that we are mature, we understand when to be serious and when it's inappropriate to joke around. But to capture the essence of childlike happiness, put it in a bottle and drink it, surely can't be a bad thing. We get wrapped up in the mundanity of our daily lives, the routines are so easy to get into and even easier to stick to. But a child wouldn't dream of living every single day in the same way, one day they may be a space pirate and the next a dinosaur. Now whilst I don't encourage pretending to be a prehistoric creature during your meeting at work, I do encourage giving less of a damn. Whilst some things are important to care about, like bill deadlines and your rent because, well, they help you to survive, they aren't the most important things in life. Get the boring stuff out of the way and then move onto embracing the fun stuff. Children understand that love, laughter and fun are the most important aspects of their lives, they are the aspects they most enjoy taking part in.

So, embrace those aspects of your life, take on this challenge to give less of a damn about the mundane things. Try to mix it up and do something different every day whether that's eating something adventurous or running to your next meeting with your arms flailing around. Sometimes I put my headphones on really loud and sing along knowing full well I sound ridiculous, because frankly I can't hear myself, but it always makes me laugh. Try and make your life that little bit more fun and exciting. Try to defy whatever expectations people may have of you, try to escape from the bubble of boring. Try to make your very ordinary life, extraordinary.

Try to live like a child, live with less boring rigid structure, stop planning everything you do down to a t and just try to live in the moment. Take each day as it comes and appreciate what you have. This may all sound like stereotypical advice and you may have gotten nothing from this, but next time you're deciding to do something, just take a step back and question what a child would do. Start to incorporate little childish actions into your daily life and see how you feel.
