Al Pacino took an unusual approach by missing one key step before he named βOppenheimerβ as the Best Picture winner at the Academy Awards on Sunday.
The actor, who presented the last award at the ceremony, noted that β10 wonderful filmsβ were up for the Oscar, but skipped the customary step of actually naming the full list of nominees.
βOnly one will take the award for Best Picture, and I have to go to the envelope for that, and I will. Here it comes,β Pacino said, as he opened his envelope and read from a card. βAnd my eyes see βOppenheimer.ββ
The flub sparked mixed reactions from social media users, who noted that both Pacino and those who worked on the Oscar-winning movie itself appeared confused.
βAl Pacino was like βwho gave me this card? Why am I here?? Whatβs going on? OPPENHEIMER!ββ wrote @ayroned on X, formerly known as Twitter.
βThe cast of Oppenheimer after hearing Al Pacino casually drop βmy eyes see Oppenheimer?β wrote another user, alongside a GIF of Elizabeth Debickiβs reaction to her own win for βThe Crownβ at the SAG Awards in February.
Others praised Pacinoβs unorthodox presentation, calling it the βperfect endingβ to the award show.
