Alan Carr is working with the makers of Gavin & Stacey on a new sitcom about his childhood.
The comedian made the announcement as he revealed the search is currently on to find a child actor to play a young version of him.
The sitcom is being made with Steve Coogan’s production company Baby Cow, whose past credits include Gavin & Stacey, Red Dwarf and The Mighty Boosh.
It will be based on Alan’s childhood growing up in 1980s Northampton.
In a video posted on Twitter, the RuPaul’s Drag Race UK judge said: “I’ve been developing a sitcom based on my life, with Baby Cow, about me growing up in the 80s in Northampton. And, guess what? We need to cast a young Alan.
“So we’re looking for a young boy, 10 to 13. Someone who has my energy, my charisma...”
He joked: “Now listen, put away your fake comedy teeth and glasses away, we don’t want a caricature.
“This is about a young boy on the cusp of puberty, starting his journey in this very masculine world of lower league football.”
Fans of Alan’s stand-up will know that his father is a former football manager and scout, who tried to encourage his son to enter into the sport, much to his dismay.
The sitcom – which is Alan’s first foray into the genre – is still in the development stages, so has not yet been commissioned by a channel.
