Alex Jones has revealed how much she misses her husband now he’s gone back to work after paternity leave.
The One Show presenter, 42, posted a sweet snap on Instagram showing her husband, Charlie Thomson, carrying their second child, Kit, in a baby carrier.
Kit was born last month, and Jones captioned the shot: “Paternity leave is over in a flash 😩 We miss having Daddy at home. 💔 The last few weeks have been bliss though.”
The post prompted dozens of comments from parents who admitted they related to the shock of suddenly ‘losing’ their other half to the workplace.
One mother wrote: “That first day is always a shock to the system but you WILL get through it.”
Another said: “Don’t you just wish it could go on forever?”, while also offering support: “You’ve got this! Hate the first few solo days but it’s great getting into your own routine.”
And one mum shared that she was going through exactly the same thing. “Same here today. Hubby is back to back today. Wish you all the best with your beautiful family.”
I empathise too – when my husband returned to his teaching job two weeks after our daughter was born, it was a total shock. I had to go back to basics, such as learning how to change nappies – fast.
I hadn’t had to do any at all before that. After all, I was busy breastfeeding and recovering physically from the experience of giving birth, and he was off work (so doing all the ‘dirty work’). I couldn’t have managed without him.
On the bright side, this is Jones’s second child, so she knows what she’s doing. She even announced his birth earlier this month during a live episode of The One Show, when she called into the show and spoke to her co-star Matt Baker.
She also shared a heartwarming photo of her newborn son grasping her finger, and praised the staff at Queen Charlotte Hospital, calling them “NHS heroes”.
