Alex Jones has shared her experience of presenting a live episode of The One Show just one hour after discovering that she had suffered a miscarriage last year.
In December 2017, Alex discovered that she was pregnant while in New Zealand, where her husband is from.
However, she learned a few weeks later that her unborn child had “stopped developing”, during a private ultrasound when back in the UK.
Speaking to the Sunday Telegraph, she recalled: “It hit us like a ton of bricks. It’s really odd. You’re in that room looking for answers that you’re never going to get.
“You’re thinking, ‘have I done something wrong? What did I do differently? Was it because we flew a long way? Was I too stressed? Was I putting too much pressure on myself?’”
Alex went on to say that when she shared her sad news with her boss at The One Show, they insisted she take time off work, but she went ahead with that night’s live show anyway.
She explained: “I said, ‘What else am I going to do?’ It’s a horrible feeling because it is so empty. There’s nothing to say. It’s done.”
The Welsh TV presenter and her husband, Charlie Thomson, are already parents to a two-year-old son, Edward, while Alex announced live on The One Show at the end of last year that she is pregnant once again.
Last month, she encouraged pregnant women to get checked if they have any concerns about their unborn child’s movements, writing on Instagram: “Hadn’t felt much movement from the baby for a few days, so lying here being monitored. If in doubt mammas, ALWAYS check. So reassuring to hear the heartbeat.”
