Ant Middleton has shared a video of his reaction to the coronavirus crisis sweeping the globe, instructing everyone to “calm the fuck down”.

But despite the SAS: Who Dares Wins star’s claim that “Covid-19 doesn’t bother me”, his remarks have bothered plenty of people on social media who have branded the former soldier “arrogant” and “irresponsible”.

In an Instagram post shared on Thursday, the dad-of-five insisted that the virus “doesn’t effect me” (sic).

He said: “Covid-19 doesn’t bother me. Why?!? Because I’m strong and able like the majority of us and it has no benefit or positive impact on my life.

“If you are vulnerable to Covid-19 then the ‘expert advice’ is yours to take on board, listen to it! Because it doesn’t effect me, it is merely ‘advice’! [sic].”

In the accompanying video, he went on: “A lot of people keep saying, ‘Ant listen to the experts!’ I have listened to the experts.

“The experts of Covid-19 say if you are vulnerable, self isolate and protect yourselves.

“If you are not vulnerable, then be sensitive to the situation and to the vulnerable, which I am being.”

He added: “If you ’re fit and healthy and able, then get out there. Don’t lock yourself away, don’t bulk buy, don’t bloody run for the hills.”

However, his views didn’t go down well with many people on Twitter...

Next time Ant Middleton's waiting to storm a building to rescue hostages, we should send in a virologist to give him a few tips on how not to get shot.#AntMiddleton #coronavirus

Very arrogant and not heeding his own advice to use common sense. Common sense is to listen to the advice of the experts, this is really unhelpful given the following he's got.

I don’t care if he’s on telly.
I don’t care if you want to be like him.
I don’t care if he could kill me by looking at me.
I don’t care what he thinks.@antmiddleton should be ashamed of himself. This is dangerous bullshit and will harm people.

As an ex forces/veteran myself I highly respected Ant Middleton for the service he provided. "ANT" WTF are you playing at????? You're losing so much respect due to this video.

Wow @antmiddleton this video aged well. It's not an enemy it's a disease that is overwhelming health services to the point Drs in Italy are deciding which pt to put on the ventilator and which to let die..... with this attitude, this will happen here #StaySafeStayHome https://t.co/jU4nBZPBf6

He's gonna lose a lot of fans that know this is horrendously irresponsible, me for one. Had a lot of respect for the guy and bought his books etc. No more from me at this time it's a case of who dares loses, be sensible people, and don't follow this advice!!

There is some selfish irresponsible behaviour coming to the fore during the #COVID19 crisis. Top of today's pile appears to be the Ant Middleton video. You wonder what goes through people's heads sometimes, and in this case the answer is clearly 'not much'.
