Do you reckon you – an adult, a grown-up who can vote and get served in pubs – could outdo a kid in an exam?

Children might be lacking in life experience, but they’re also actively being taught stuff all the time by trained teachers, while grown-ups have to figure things out on their own.

Year 6 students hoping to go to grammar school sat the 11-plus in September and are currently awaiting their results. Online tutoring platform Tutor House, which helps kids prepare for those exams, has compiled a 10-question sample quiz from past papers so adults can have a go.

How many answers can you get right?

What’s the missing number here?

15 ÷ 3 × 12 = 41 + (?)

(Is it easier if you have options? It’s either 9, 19, 14 or 22.)

Can you continue the following sequence?

25, 24, 21, 16, 9, (?)

(Again, there are multiple choice options, which makes this easier than the real exam, which wouldn’t tend to offer them: it’s either 0, 3, 4 or -2.)

How many egg boxes?

Winston is packing eggs into egg boxes. He puts 6 eggs into each egg box. How many complete egg boxes can he fill with 106 eggs?

(Options: 12, 13, 17, 18).

Want to try more? The full quiz is here, and you need to score eight out of ten to claim you would pass the 11-plus.
