Asda Reveals Its Christmas Menu, Including Tree-Shaped Pizza And Elf Ice Cream

It’s all a bit much looking at this in the summer, isn’t it?

We’re barely out of the heatwave and yet here we are, unveiling Asda’s 2019 Christmas menu. We can’t believe it either.

Ringing in the yuletide (far too early in our opinion), the new dishes are described as being “all about opulence, inclusivity and novelty”. As a result, there’s your classic leg of lamb and spiced gin, as well as vegan alternatives such as vegan beef wellington and vegan chocolate swirl desserts.

There’s also a few bizarre additions, including the Christmas pizza. Asda has given a margarita pizza a revamp, topping it with pigs in blankets, stuffing balls and chunks of turkey. It’s also made in the shape of a tree. Obvs.

Linsey Taylor, senior director of product development at Asda, said: “This year, we’ve really considered customer feedback from 2018 – creating products based on needs and desires for certain food and drink, particularly for those looking for more inclusive options but still seeking delicious flavour and great value”.

As well as the Christmas tree pizza, there’s a pigs in blankets centrepiece, which we have to give Asda credit for. It’s 12 cocktail sausages laying on a bed of pork, sage and onion stuffing wrapped in bacon strips.

Certainly a sight to behold.

And for dessert, don’t stick to the conventional sweet treats – instead, try the “elf ice cream”, described as a “green raspberry treat” mixed with candy floss ice cream and sprinkled with raspberry compote and candy cane sugar shapes.

It’s all a bit much looking at this in August, isn’t it?

Thankfully you won’t be seeing these festive treats in the supermarket just yet. Asda hasn’t stated when they’ll be available to buy – or the prices of the dishes – but we’ll keep you updated.
