Ashes 2019: How Twitter Reacted To Ben Stokes' Heroics

A lot of love for Jack Leach too.

Ben Stokes set social media alight after his magnificent, against-all-odds century that saved the Ashes on Sunday.

The all-rounder hit 135 not out and mounted an unthinkable, unbroken final wicket stand with spinner Jack Leach, channeling the spirit of Sir Ian Botham in 1981 and even eclipsing his match-winning turn in the World Cup final.

Stokes hit eight sixes and 11 fours as he laid claim to one of the greatest innings of all time, while Leach’s solitary run was the one that levelled the scores.

As Stokes smashed the ball around, Australia fumbled a run-out and and a clear lbw was waved away, Twitter was a mess ...

England Cricket was all of us

And England also has a new cult hero ...

Actual true thing: it is 8pm, Jack Leach just led the whole England team back out onto the pitch, then re-enacted his single that tied the scores. #Ashes

Ben Stokes will get the headlines, but Jack Leach cleaning his glasses before facing 90mph Pat Cummins is the most English sporting image you are ever likely to see. #ashes
