A cheap bottle of red wine has come up trumps in the 2016 Decanter World Wine Awards.
La Moneda Reserva Malbec has been named as ‘Platinum Best in Show’ in a blind taste test of 240 wine connoisseurs.
The red wine, which originates from Chile, was awarded best in show in the ‘Best Red Single-Varietal Under £15’ category.
Rather brilliantly, it costs just £4.37 from Asda.
The Malbec fought off fierce competition to win its category. It was then shortlisted in the red wine category and won best in show, according to the Independent.
Judges described the flavour as “freshly crushed black fruit, creamy vanilla yoghurt and pepper spice”. They also said it had “an excellent freshness”.
Unsurprisingly, the wine has already sold out on the Asda website.
It is described as being “a deep purple colour with violet tints, rounded and velvety tannins, complex plum, fig, strawberry, spices flavours and excellent length”.
The 2015 wine is also suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
At under a fiver, what’s not to like?
