A teenage boy has been arrested over the killing of 17-year-old Jodie Chesney, who was fatally stabbed in an east London park earlier this month.

The 17-year-old suspect is being held in custody at an east London police station following his arrest on Friday.

It is the latest in a series of detentions after Chesney was killed as she listened to music with friends near a children’s playground in Harold Hill, Romford.

Emergency services were called to the scene just before 9.30pm on March 1 after the teenager was knifed in the back, in an attack which did not appear to have a motive.

She was pronounced dead an hour later.

A 16-year-old boy and two men aged 18 and 20 have been charged with her murder, while a 50-year-old man, and 38-year-old woman and a 17-year-old boy were released under investigation.

An investigation into her murder is ongoing and detectives from the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command are urging anyone with information to contact them on 0208 345 3775, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
