Birmingham Caravan Investigation: Woman Arrested Over Child Neglect After Boy, 10, Found Dead

West Midlands Police say a 44-year-old remains in police custody.

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect after a 10-year-old boy was found dead in a caravan in Birmingham, West Midlands Police said.

Police and an ambulance were called to an address in Blossomville Way, Acocks Green, at 7.25am on Thursday following reports that a child was unconscious.

The boy was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead at around 8.20am, West Midlands Police said.

A 44-year-old woman from Acocks Green has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect and remains in police custody.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained and a post-mortem will take place in due course to understand the precise cause of death.

Detective inspector Joe Davenport said: “This is a truly tragic incident in which a young boy has been found dead.

“We understand he had some underlying health issues and was admitted to hospital recently.

“We’ve launched an enquiry to understand what happened in the days leading up to his death and to determine if any factors have contributed to his death.”
