Police have launched an urgent search for a man after a 10-year-old boy was stabbed in Leicester on Saturday.
The boy, who was with his mother at the time, was approached by the man and attacked at around 5.20pm in Belper Street, in the Belgrave area of the city.
The man then fled on foot from the scene.
A member of the public called emergency services and the child was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham where his condition is described as non-life-threatening.
His mother was not injured in the incident.
The suspect has been described by officers as a light-skinned Asian man, in his mid-20s, around 5ft 10ins tall, of a chubby build, and wearing a brown coloured jacket.
Detective inspector Tim Lindley, who is investigating the incident, said: “This was an act of violence against a young child who was out, in the street, with his mother.
“It happened in a residential area at a time of day when there would have been people about, either on foot or driving through.
“We need to find who was responsible for injuring this boy.”
He asked anyone who may have been in the Belper Street area between 4.30pm and 6.30pm who saw the incident or a man matching their description to get in touch, as well as anyone with dashcam footage or CCTV of the area.
