What do we call it?

The UK has voted to leave the European Union in a result that has sent shockwaves around the world.

Leave won 51.9% of the total vote to Remain’s 48.1% after the final count. Turnout in the referendum was 72.2%, or 46,500,001 people.

The close count is dividing opinion across the UK, with some celebrating an "Independence Day", with others mourning over a "Doomsday".

Speaking outside No.10 Downing Street this morning, David Cameron said he would step down in three months’ time. “I love this country and I feel honoured to have served it,” he said.
