Teen Injured After Fairground Ride Comes Loose On Brighton Pier

A witness said: “A boy who looked in his mid-teens was being taken off the pier on a stretcher."

A teenage boy has been injured after a part of a fairground ride came loose and struck him on the leg at Brighton Pier.

Police and the fire brigade were called to the scene around 3pm on Monday afternoon.

A decorative section of the “Air Race” attraction is believed to have detached from the ride.

A Sussex police spokesperson said in a statement: “Four people were reported to have sustained injuries, but they are not thought to be serious at this time.

“The matter has been referred to the Health and Safety Executive.”

A tweet from Sussex ambulance service clarified that only one boy had been physically injured and others were shaken by the experience.

We have responded to an incident on #BrightonPier today in which it was reported at approximately 3pm that a piece of a ride had come loose. A teenage male has been taken to hospital with a leg injury. Others were shaken but uninjured. We are clearing from the scene.

A witness told The Argus: “A boy who looked in his mid-teens was being taken off the pier on a stretcher.

“He was wincing and the ambulance crews with him gave him a pump to take breaths from.”
