Danny Dyer And Boy George Among British LGBT Award Winners

Danny Dyer and Boy George were among the winners at this year's British LGBT Awards.

An array of LGBT stars and straight allies battled it out for a series of gongs at the prestigious ceremony at London's London’s Grand Connaught Rooms on Friday (13 May).

'EastEnders' star Danny was presented with the TV Celebrity Straight Ally, while legendary Queen guitarist Brian May scooped Straight Ally of the Year accolade, which was presented by American singer Adam Lambert.

Boy George was presented with the Huffington Post Loud & Proud Award, which was collected on the night by his close friend, Marilyn.

The star-studded bash, which was hosted by Spice Girl Mel B and former Blue singer, Duncan James, also saw Sir Ian McKellen win the Global Icon Award in honour of his longstanding activism on equality issues.

Alan Carr was also presented with the LGBT Celebrity of the Year award. He saw off tough competition form the likes of Mary Portas, Caitlyn Jenner and Paul O’Grady.

Other winners included Olympic boxer Nicola Adams, who was named Sport Personality, and BBC 'Newsnight' presenter Evan Davis who won Broadcaster of the Year.

Awards organiser, Sarah Garrett, commented: “The British LGBT Awards is Britain’s biggest gay event. We are proud of our winners and grateful to all those who turned up to support the LGBT community.”
