A 22-year-old British woman has been found dead in a four-star Swiss hotel.
The body of Anna Florence Reed, from Harrogate, Yorkshire, was discovered on Tuesday in a luxury hotel in Locarno, where she was sharing a room with her 29-year-old German boyfriend.
According to Le Matin newspaper, the couple were heard arguing in the early hours of Tuesday morning, prompting an intervention from concierge.
At 7am, Reed’s boyfriend, who is from Zurich, alerted reception to say his partner was unwell. An ambulance was called, but despite resuscitation attempts, they were unable to save her.
Swiss Police told The Times: “A 29-year-old German man has been arrested and a file has been sent to the local prosecutor with an allegation of pre-intentional homicide.”
The couple had been shopping at a local boutique the day before. A tailor who had adjusted two dresses for Reed told The Sun: “She seemed very happy and content with her boyfriend. They seemed so close that we assumed they were married.
“They seemed in love.”
Local media reports that Reed died from asphyxiation or suffocation and that she had small cuts and fractures on her body, including her neck.
A spokesman for the Foreign Office said: “Our consular staff are assisting the family of a British woman following her death in Switzerland.”
