before i get off my soap box i'd like to hope everyone practices what they've been preaching for the last decade about growing from the way we treated britney spears in 2007 with this recent news. mental health isn't a punchline. be decent. be kind. we're all human here.πŸ’œ

#prayforbritney 20 working years in the business. 2 decades. had ups and downs at a time where it was frowned upon/laughed at for a celebrity to struggle & i’m so glad she is at a place where she can find help for herself because no one is more deserving. we love u @britneyspears pic.twitter.com/zxnDYe4lJO

I have always had Feelings about the ways people talked about Britney Spears’ super-public struggles with mental health and all I can say is that I hope she’s ok and I am sending good energy into the universe for her.

Britney Spears taking the time to get the help she needs is brave, smart, and laudable.

I hope other pop stars follow in her footsteps (as so many already have) and seek the assistance they could use.

It's not a weakness, it's a sign of strength.

In January, Britney put her second Las Vegas residency on hold to care for her father, Jamie Spears, who has been battling a life-threatening illness.

The press release announcing the residency’s postponement explained that his β€œcolon spontaneously ruptured and he was immediately admitted into surgery”.

The 66-year-old then spent 28 days in the hospital after a β€œlong, complicated post-operative period”.

β€œWe’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him,” she said at the time. β€œI had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time. I hope you all can understand.”

Since then, Jamie has had a second surgery to fix the ruptured colon.

HuffPost UK has contacted Britney’s representatives for comment.
