Cats' New Trailer Has Done Little To Change Anyone's Mind About The Upcoming Film

People have a lot of questions, and most of them are about Idris Elba.

The second trailer for the upcoming film version of Cats has been unveiled and… it’s probably not going to change your mind about it, to be honest.

As you might remember, the first Cats teaser pretty much broke the internet when it was released over the summer, with critics on social media admitting they found watching stars like Taylor Swift, Jason Derulo and James Corden cavorting around dressed as human/cat hybrids equal parts disturbing and gripping.

Well, a second trailer was posted online on Tuesday afternoon, and it got pretty much the same reaction...

Yep, this still looks creepy. https://t.co/bFWa38lt5L

They may have fixed #SonicMovie, but I'm happy to know #CatsMovie still looks like a Dumpster Fire! pic.twitter.com/en5GS5djsq

IT LOOKS WORSE THAN BEFORE. Have they done this on purpose? Do they know their market for this now? STILL CANNOT BELIEVE IDRIS IS IN THIS. https://t.co/gBE1s2y6w6

My plus one for this will be an exorcist. https://t.co/zlAcWN6sQu

I genuinely still don't understand how this movie got made. https://t.co/RjhnK4Yae8

"WAIT, THAT'S WHAT CATS IS ABOUT!?!?!" - Everyone, including people who have seen CATS before. https://t.co/JVBWgxKuYY

The second #CatsMovie trailer confirms what the first one had clearly established: there is *no way* I’m turning up to a screening of this sober. I’m ready. 🌴

The new Cats trailer does offer a more in-depth look at certain aspects of the film, but this only led to even more questions, mostly relating to Idris Elba’s feline form and Taylor Swift’s shimmying...

What the fuck is going on with Idris Elba's cat body pic.twitter.com/IGsoAyHTK6

Oh god there are 'comedy' bits now https://t.co/sXTskqT5fL

1: Why are all the cats British, and

2: Is Taylor Swift going to be British, and

3: The plot of CATS is a competition reality series? https://t.co/73SxjWbUhJ

— Phil Nobile Jr. (@PhilNobileJr) November 19, 2019

I.... I don't... I can't...
Why are they so poorly scaled? At 0.07 there are dozens of cats, all much smaller than a standard cat flap, like the one James Corden peers through. Is this a world where cats are miniature, or humans extra large? 🤯 https://t.co/aPtRB4E0aF #catsmovie

we just have to get used to this actually happening pic.twitter.com/klGE4i0ONQ

would have LOVED to have been in the room when a marketing team decided that the #CatsMovie - wherein cats compete to be picked for death - should be advertised as the "joyful event of the season"

For the second time this year I'm sat here asking myself: why do the cats have breasts https://t.co/lDbjYpyHYS

as soon as I saw @catsmovie gave the lady cats breasts, I should have assumed someone would shake them while dancing but I still wasn't prepared for the reality of what that would look like... pic.twitter.com/tT24lyBcAG

This is the single worst thing that has ever happened to anyone. Ever.

How did we get here? What did we do to deserve this? Are we in Hell? How do I get out? #CatsMovie pic.twitter.com/k62zjTnYyA

Having said that, the trailer obviously did its job, with even those poking fun at the clip still admitting they couldn’t wait to see the full film...

Oh god it's still so upsetting. I can't wait https://t.co/c5GIm3yiFR

“Are you ready to become a Best Supporting Actor winner?”

Brad Pitt gulped.

Al Pacino nodded.

Tom Hanks blinked nervously.

Joe Pesci shuddered.

“Yes, Jason Derulo in CATS,” they said in unison.

The chaotic energy that this radiates is all the convincing I need to buy a ticket. WE CANNOT WAIT. https://t.co/rTBQchuZNj

This looks like the most misguided thing ever and I CANNOT WAIT https://t.co/MKP6KsgeCx

— Matt Goldberg (@MattGoldberg) November 19, 2019

There's a shot in the new CATS trailer where a naked Cat Idris Elba disappears in a puff of pink smoke and somehow it's just terrible and not what you want to see at all. I can't wait to see this movie.

— The De Ville Rides Out (@Devilligan) November 19, 2019

The more jokes they add the more insane it gets. I'm excited to emerge from this screening in a state of delirium. https://t.co/4z4JsfUHAU

The #Cats trailer. It’s worse than I expected. I’m so happy.

For anyone who’s confused by the two Cats trailers, let us assure you that explaining the plot of the original musical to you probably won’t help at all.

The play basically centres around – you guessed it – a group of cats dubbed the Jellicles, who spend two hours introducing themselves to the audience through the medium of the song hoping they’ll be the one picked to “ascend to the Heaviside Layer” at the end of it all.

So basically, it’s The X Factor, but for cats, and the prize is... death, apparently.

The new film boasts an all-star cast of Dame Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, Idris Elba, Taylor Swift, James Corden, Rebel Wilson and Jennifer Hudson, alongside newcomer Francesca Hayward, who is already a big name in the dance world.

Cats hits UK cinemas on Friday 20 December.
