Charlie Sloth's Final BBC Shows Scrapped, Following Stage Invasion

He made headlines after an incident at the Audio & Radio Industry Awards.

Radio 1 presenter Charlie Sloth’s final 10 shows at the BBC have been scrapped, following his stage invasion at the ARIAs (Audio And Radio Industry Awards).

Charlie announced earlier this year that he would be stepping down as a presenter on both Radio 1 and 1Xtra, after almost a decade with the corporation.

However, with a handful of shows still left to present, Charlie’s time at the BBC has now been cut short, after the incident at the ARIAs.

During the ceremony on Thursday night, Charlie was unimpressed when Edith Bowman won an award over him, channelling Kanye West and storming the stage.

Edith Bowman, fuck your life,” he said into the microphone. “I just wanna say BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra, Saturday night ‘Rap Show’. Fuck your life. God bless.”

Later that night, Radio 1 and 1Xtra Controller Ben Cooper told attendees: “I’d just like to say Charlie Sloth has left the building and is leaving Radio 1 & 1Xtra. Apologies.”

The BBC has since confirmed that Charlie has left the corporation earlier than intended, saying in a statement: “We have agreed with Charlie Sloth that he will not be presenting any further editions of ‘The 8th’ and ‘The Rap Show’ for Radio 1 and 1Xtra. New presenters will be announced for both shows in coming weeks.”

Charlie has also shared his side of the story, insisting that he chose to step down early of his own accord.

Soooo the Arias…” he tweeted. “It was supposed to be a bit of bants with me jumping on stage, starting with me saying ‘ok ima let you finish’ ... it wasn’t directed at Edith, I love Edith and like I said so does my Mum.

“I’ve apologised to Edith privately, I’m sorry to anyone I upset. I’ve decided not do the remaining 10 shows on the BBC that I initially agreed. I love you all. Thank you.”

Charlie said in a statement released earlier this month: “After almost 10 years of dedicating my life to BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra and achieving everything I set out to do, I have decided the time has come to leave the BBC and seek a new challenge.”
