Chris Evans has issued an apology, after photos emerged showing him urinating at the side of a motorway.
The Sun published the images on Friday (22 July), which showed Chris and a male travelling buddy pulling over on the hard shoulder of the “pretty busy” M4 in the middle of the afternoon to relieve themselves, before turning around to take a swig from a bottle of brandy.
The former ‘Top Gear’ presenter has now issued a statement to The Mirror, apologising to anyone who was “offended” by the photos, as well as for his “not robust” bladder.
He explained: “Myself and several colleagues and friends had finished lunch in London and were travelling back to Berkshire in a private hire people carrier. For one reason or another, a journey that usually takes 45 minutes to an hour took almost twice that.
Chris stepped down from his job at the helm of ‘Top Gear’ earlier this month, after receiving poor reviews for his time in the hot seat.
It’s been suggested that he won’t be replaced, and instead his co-presenter Matt LeBlanc will take centre stage in the next series of the BBC show, with the rest of the presenting team also enjoying more time in the spotlight.
Announcing the news on Twitter, Chris said: “Stepping down from ‘Top Gear’. Gave it my best shot but sometimes that’s not enough. The team are beyond brilliant, I wish them all the best.”
