Chrissy Teigen is used to dealing with haters online. Though she’s become an expert either at putting them in their place or just ignoring them all together, there are certain vile comments she would rather just not have to see at all.
The model and cookbook author has been vocal in her pleas to Instagram about the need for the option to disable comments on the app, and finally, it seems that her and many other users’ voices have been heard.
Last week, Instagram announced they’re slowly implementing anti-harassment tools that allow certain users to filter out keywords in their comments. According to International Business Times, this feature is currently being rolled out to the “internet-famous.”
On Tuesday, the 30-year-old took to Twitter to express her gratitude to the company for implementing the keyword filters:
Teigen joked that she was actually having a difficult time filling out the filters, and said it was like a “therapy exercise” having to type out every rude name she’s ever been called online.
The keyword filters are certainly a start when it comes to creating safer spaces online, but it also requires users to have to anticipate the kind of comments they don’t want to see.
When The Huffington Post caught up with Teigen in May, she opened up about why she felt Instagram so badly needed to make a change.
“I don’t really know what good comes out of the comments on an Instagram exactly. I personally don’t look at them and feel better because of them, but I definitely feel worse sometimes,” she said. “So I just think if people want that option, then why not give them the option?”
