Coleen Rooney has voiced her ‘disappointment’ that Rebekah Vardy has filed a lawsuit against her, following their infamous run-in last year.
The pair made headlines across the globe back in October, when Coleen alleged Rebekah’s Instagram account was the source of leaked stories about her private life in the press.
At the time, Rebekah vehemently denied she was responsible for the leaks, and said the so-called “Wagatha Christie” row had caused her to have severe anxiety attacks and led to her being hospitalised on three occasions.
It’s since been revealed that Rebekah has filed a libel claim against Coleen, which the latter has now addressed for the first time via her lawyer.
In a statement (via The Sun), Coleen’s lawyer, Paul Lunt said: “It is disappointing that Mrs Vardy has chosen to issue court proceedings.
“Coleen feels that the time and money involved could be put to better use; her offer to meet face to face still stands.”
He added: “Mrs Vardy’s decision to issue court proceedings does at least mean that Coleen’s evidence can be made public when the time is right.”
In October 2019, Coleen – wife of footballer Wayne Rooney – posted a public statement on Twitter, in which she revealed that she’d blocked all but one of her Instagram followers, in a deliberate attempt to find out who had been leaking stories about her to the press.
After she ended the post with the line: “It’s… Rebekah Vardy’s account,” Rebekah issued a swift denial claiming that “various people” had access to her Instagram account.
Rebekah, who is married to England player Jamie Vardy, later said an expert was working to discover who could have been behind the leaks.
No further details about Rebekah’s claim are available at this stage, and no date has been set for a court hearing.
However, the case will proceed to a trial unless a settlement is reached between the parties.
