'Coronation Street' Spoiler: Roy Cropper And Cathy Matthews Set To Marry?

Wedding bells could be about to ring once again in ‘Coronation Street’, with reports Roy Cropper is set to tie the knot with Cathy Matthews.

The Mirror have claimed that notoriously-shy Roy will find himself on the receiving end of a proposal from Cathy - his first love since the tragic death of his wife, Hayley, two years ago.

The newspaper have claimed that producers were determined to shine some sunlight into Roy’s life, after enduring a difficult couple of years.

A source explained: "Roy had to deal with the death of Hayley and had very tough and emotional storylines for months so writers felt he needed a happier 2016.

“He and Cathy have been getting on brilliantly and so she decides to take things to the next level and gets down on one knee.”

Roy and Cathy shared their first kiss during last year’s live episode, after growing close shortly after Hayley’s death in 2014.

The insider continued: “It is a bit of a shock to Roy and some of the others on the Street but viewers will be pleased to see him have some happiness back in his life. He is a much-loved ‘Corrie’ character and although no date has been set, it looks odds-on that this will be another big soap wedding.”

Roy will be making a return to the cobbles in the coming weeks, when actor David Nielsen’s break comes to an end.

And Cathy’s proposal is just one of the big storylines ‘Corrie’ fans can look forward to in the near future, with a whole lot of drama planned for this summer, mostly revolving around the machinists at the Underworld factory.

The soap could be about to undergo a big shake-up, thanks to the arrival of Kate Oates, who is taking over from departing executive producer Stuart Blackburn, who received a mixed reception from long-standing viewers of the ITV soap.
