Couple Invited Friends To A 'Costume Party', It Was Actually Their Surprise Wedding

This beats matching bridesmaid dresses.

When Lexie Roessler’s parents got married 24 years ago they decided to do things a little differently.

Instead of the usual ceremony, with colour-coordinated outfits, flowers and table settings, the couple invited their guests to a costume party.

The catch? They didn’t tell any of their guests it was their wedding until they arrived.

Their 16-year-old daughter recently shared a photo of her parents’ big day on Twitter, which has since be retweeted more than 53,000 times.

Roessler’s mum decided she wanted an unconventional wedding following the death of her father, soon after her engagement.

“She wasn’t going to have him to walk her down the aisle, so she knew she had to do something different,” the teen told BuzzFeed.

The pair decided to get married on 31 October, so a Halloween party didn’t seem too unusual to their friends and family.

Needless to say, the guests were rather surprised to find out they were attending a wedding.

The couple told their guests there would be prizes for the best costumes at the party.

As a result, everyone made a huge effort, giving the pair the most marvellous wedding photos we’ve ever seen.

On Twitter many have said Roessler’s parents have given them #RelationshipGoals, but the couple are surprised their photos have been so popular.

“Growing up, I just thought this was normal. I never thought it was crazy or weird,” Roessler said.

“My parents think it’s funny and they’re just confused about it.”

It looks a lot of fun to us.
