Online dating sites and apps like Tinder have killed romance, according to historian Lucy Worsley.
Ahead of her new BBC Four series, A Very British Romance, she spoke of her belief that while yesterday's generation was all about the search for The One - now it is more about The One For Now.
And while national newspapers and media outlets followed up her views asking whether romance really is dying out, I can't help but think that people who believe this aren't looking in the right places to begin with.
In the Radio Times, Worsley asked: 'How could Jane Austen have written her novels about the slow, exquisite torture of love in an age of Grindr and Tinder when bored singletons search for one night stands with a few clicks of their mobiles?'
But although times have undoubtedly changed, you just have to dig a little deeper to find something....well.....a little deeper.
There are plenty of ways to find a partner to woo, without relying on the instant gratification that the Tinders and Grindrs of the world provide.
My advice is to look for places or events where you will find people with similar interests to yours or who are of a similar age where they will mingle. Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try something new.
And remember, the whole process of finding someone is supposed to be fun. People can take it far too seriously. Relax, have fun, be positive and don't be too desperate about finding the perfect partner, there's nothing as ugly as desperation.
Here are my top tips to turning off Tinder and finding The One.
Learn the Ukulele!
Why not learn a new skill or sign up to a class? The Indytute website has a host of 'brilliantly inspired lessons' to give you the chance of learning something new with likeminded people. From Harmonica and Ukulele, to Origami and Hula, find something you'll enjoy, that's sure to break the ice - and you never know who you might meet!
Flirt!
Learning how to flirt might not sound like the most romantic of ideas, but learning a few techniques with other people hoping to do the same might open up a host of doors.
Jean Smith's Fearless Flirting Tours of London teach participants how to flirt around little-known flirting grounds such as galleries, bookshops and supermarkets, road testing her tips on passers-by under her watchful eye. You're all in the same boat, so it looks like it could be a lot of fun!
Get away from it all!
Holidaying with other likeminded singles can be the perfect way to relax, be yourself and find someone when you're not actually trying.
From cycling and kayaking in Vietnam, to snowshoeing and seeing the Northern Lights in Finland, Exodus is one of a number of travel companies who put on a range of packages catering for single travellers. Take in the sights, enjoy some adventures and maybe you'll be lucky enough to meet someone when you least expect it.
Let someone do the leg-work for you!
Matchmaking companies are enjoying a resurgence of late, where they will pair you up with others with similar interests and likes.
The matchmaking company interviews everyone and completes an ID and vetting process, before matching you with likely companions.
There's no need for your life to be displayed online either, with profiles picked by the matchmaker and posted out to you. While some may see this part of the process as old-fashioned, I think it brings some of the romanticism back into the dating world!
Speed date in silence!
Single events have come on a lot since the days of standing around a room hoping someone catches your eye.
Meddlers of Honour put on events for singles where their 'meddlers' can help you break the ice if you haven't already got talking to someone who has caught your eye.
Meanwhile, Shhhh Dating Events include speed dating in silence - with lots of eye-gazing and silent flirting games to get the event off to an unusual start, before giving you the chance to actually talk to the person you enjoyed 'silently flirting' with earlier on.
